It has been many years since the invention of playing cards. They are used for various purposes like playing poker, gambling, doing magic tricks, etc. No matter whatever purpose they are used for, the common thing among their use is entertainment. The collection of such cards is referred to as a deck. A deck comprises of fifty two cards. Four suits are present in a single deck. Spade, club, diamond and heart are the names of the suits. There are thirteen cards present in each suit. The thirteen cards in each suit consists of an ace, other numbered cards from two to nine, a jack, a queen and a king. Cards having a jack, queen or king are generally to referred as face cards. The color of the card is determined by the suit to which it belongs.
The deck of cards can be obtained in various designs and sizes. The designs and sizes can be varied according to the way one wants. A suit is printed on one side of the card and a picture on the other. The picture printed on the back can be customized according to the way one wishes to have it. Kids can get the picture of the most popular cartoon character printed on the deck as an example. Such customization of cards also serves as a good form of advertizing. Companies can have their logo printed on the back of the cards, to promote themselves.
As playing cards have been a part of human lives since a long time, it has also helped to improve some basic human characteristics. The first characteristic that improves to a great extent is logical thinking. No matter how much ever easy playing card games might seem to be, they require a considerable amount of logical thinking. One has to think of some logic before making a move. The game makes no sense if proper logic is not applied to it. Thus the game helps in improving the ability to think logically.
Concentration is another characteristic that is improved by the game. One needs to be very attentive while playing the game of cards. To make an appropriate move, it is necessary to collect adequate information. If there is no adequate concentration, then there are chances of mistake being made. Thus the game helps one to improve their skills of concentrating.
The most important thing that the game teaches us is patience. Along with being crucial for winning the game, patience is an essential quality needed in life. An impatient opponent can very easily be defeated by a patient player. The most vital qualities of human beings is thus improved to a great extent by a simple game of cards.
It has been a long time since the presence of playing cards in our lives. Regardless of the improvements in the same, it will always be considered to be one of the best forms of entertainment. It will also be the best way to bring people together and one of the best forms to kill time.
